The relatives of young people missing after a devastating inferno at a bar in a Switzerland's winter destination are confronting an agonising wait for confirmed information and pleading for clues about their children via social media.

The blaze engulfed the a popular bar in the alpine resort, located in the Swiss Alps of the Valais region, in the small hours of the first day of the year. Circulated footage depict the roof structure catching alight as beverages with fireworks are raised in celebration.

Officials have stated that it could take days if not weeks to formally name the those who perished of the fire, which claimed the lives of four dozen individuals and hurt another scores more. Authorities said on Friday that 113 of the injured have been accounted for, with the process continuing to name the other six.

In the meantime, relatives have been using social media to plead for clues about their missing relatives who were present at the venue that evening.
