Slot Insists He Is Safe and Has Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Loss
The Liverpool head coach admitted that it's expected for questions to be raised about his future following another heavy defeat against PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool endured their ninth loss in 12 games, representing the team's poorest streak since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league title holders on a punishing night at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, things are alright, I have got a lot of support from the top,” the coach stated.
“It would be nice to reverse this trend and earn three points obviously but when you're in a managerial role and underperforming then it is normal that questions are asked.”
He noted, “I am OK with my position. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a tough spot but it's crucial that we turned it around.”
Talks with The Board
Upon being questioned to expand on his discussions with the club's leadership, Slot said:
“There's regular dialogue. They are supportive to the team and for me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me all the time each day to say they trust me.”
He mentioned, “During our regular exchanges I perceive the confidence. However I've not talked to them after this match yet so it remains to be seen.”
Familiar Problems and Player Reaction
Slot expressed regret over recurring shortcomings from his team in their Champions League loss, namely wasted chances and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the solutions. Truthfully, I do not. I'm telling that to all,” the midfielder stated.
“It is unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to reflect. I'm beyond being angry inside. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He continued, “It’s hard because I play for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen Liverpool since I was young.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Reds side enduring a phase of this nature with performances like these.”
He concluded, “But we still have that badge on our chest. And until that badge is removed, we will always fight.”
“We will attempt to bring this squad back to the top, show everyone again what this club is about and the reason it's called the greatest side in the world.”
“At this moment, things are bad and it must improve.”
