Edwards and O'Neil are two of the initial candidates under consideration to succeed Vitor Pereira as manager of Wolves.

Pereira was dismissed on the weekend following the squad's 10-match winless beginning to the top-flight campaign.

And both candidates - both of who have historic links to the team - are among the names to be evaluated by the Wolves ownership.

Edwards is currently at another club, which would create a possible hurdle to his appointment at Wolves' stadium.

However the former Luton Town head coach - who played more than 100 of appearances for Wolves during his playing career - is said to be a strong candidate for the position.

The 42-year-old is said to have support from the club directors as they begin the process of appointing a fresh head coach.

Gary O'Neil is additionally emerging as a surprise contender, although he would be a shock appointment given he was sacked by Wolves in December last year.

The former West Ham midfielder is out of work which means the club would not need to provide any buyout fee.
