Recent details have emerged concerning the untimely passing of esteemed director Rob Reiner and visual artist Michele Singer Reiner, whose bodies were discovered at their Brentwood, Los Angeles property on Sunday.

The Alarm

According to a report referencing a confidential source, a therapist scheduled for an session was the first to notice something was wrong after not being able to enter the home. This individual then got in touch with the couple's daughter, Romy Reiner, who lives nearby.

When she went into the house, Romy came upon her father's body. It is said she then fled the house in anguish, unaware at that moment that her mother's body was there as well. Her roommate who had gone with her promptly called 911. Afterward, paramedics found Michele Singer Reiner's body.

Criminal Charges

The police have formally accused the couple's 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, with two counts of murder in the first degree, including the charge related to a weapon, said to be a knife. He is currently detained and denied bail.

Correcting the Record

The anonymous source also disputed several previously reported details. They said that while Romy Reiner informed first responders that her brother Nick resided in a guesthouse on the property, she did not name him as a potential suspect at that time.

Additionally disputed published suggestions that Rob and Michele Singer Reiner had been particularly "apprehensive" about Nick's behavior in the weeks leading up to the incident. Instead the family was "familiar with working through [Nick's] problems together."

The statement applies to descriptions of reportedly "erratic" behavior by Nick at a event hosted by Conan O'Brien on the night before the discovery. While the source stated they were not in a position to confirm whether Rob had "scolded" his son at the party, they maintained that reports of a "blow-up" between the two were not correct.

Investigation Details

Per law enforcement sources, the medical examiner had yet to determine as of Tuesday whether the Reiners died late on Saturday or on Sunday. Some media reports noted the state of their bodies pointed to they had been deceased for some hours.

Nick Reiner was apprehended at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Sunday in the Exposition Park, about 15 miles from the family home. He was scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, but his attorney, Alan Jackson, indicated his client had not been medically cleared and would be unable to attend until Wednesday or later.
