Battlefield 6's Relaxed Playlist Ignites Intense Debates Over Bots, Experience Points, and Wait Times

Recently, the game developers launched a new playlist called Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this mode mirrors the standard Breakthrough format but includes several notable changes:

  • Every squad has only 8 real players, with the rest made up of AI-controlled opponents.
  • Activities done by human gamers grant full XP, while bot actions offer reduced XP.
  • Just a pair of locations can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State map.
  • Elements like Player tags, achievements, and stat tracking have been turned off.

So essentially, this mode lives up to its title: it's a laid-back take of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think it's a good idea, as it gives additional choices for players seeking different methods to enjoy the title. However, gaming history have taught us anything, it is that you can't please everyone. In other words, many Battlefield 6 fans are upset.

Community Responses: From Fury to Support

"People want real players. Don't repeat the mistakes of your competitors," reads one reply to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing concept," says another. Meanwhile, in community forums, a player remarks, "It's unclear where we are headed with this title," while someone else details everything they consider to be broken in the game: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this bot mode."

On the other hand, amid the criticism, some gamers sharing how much they're liking the new mode. "It's enjoyable to practice, human participants prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," says a forum post. "This subreddit fails to see that there are players who actually go outside and don't play this game all the time. Let them strike a balance," states a different comment. A response via social media clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is great for me," while someone else praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Valid Criticisms and Player Feedback

All that said, players have constructive reasons to complain about Casual Breakthrough. Some users have pointed out that it could increase wait times even longer for other modes because of the large amount of playlists currently available. On a similar note, certain regions already encounter mostly bots in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode won't start without a required amount of real players, despite it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.

Finally, a major complaints is that a previous feature was promised to offer full XP, even against bots, but that was removed when they tried to eliminate XP farming from the mode. Thus Casual Breakthrough feels like the player base compromising in the middle, according to a Reddit comment. Another describes this mode as the devs "making a mistake so hard, I experienced so much fun in the first couple of days, what prompted them to adjust it?"

Future Prospects: Adjustments Occur?

If Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something to date with the latest installment, it is that they're listening and acting on player input. Assignments that were overly hard got fixed rapidly, as did the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, should analytics indicates this new playlist is underperforming to their standards, they won't be shy to change it again.
