A Mountain of Anime News Arrived Over the Festive Season

The Yuletide season present a plethora of activities much better than checking the latest news: discovering surprises, indulging in holiday treats, and harnessing deep breathing to refrain from snapping at family members. Hopefully you were able to accomplish all these things and more. However, the entertainment world doesn't take a break, and this is notably true for the realm of anime. Many noteworthy announcements came out over the holidays, and if you missed some of them, here is a compilation of the biggest bits.

The One-Punch Man Series Season 3 Is Set to Continue (Come 2027)

Without a doubt the most surprising piece of news, the much-discussed controversial season that was the third season of One-Punch Man failed to halt the series' continuation. Season 3 will return with a second cour in 2027—so far away they easily could have called it season 4. More surprisingly, animation studio J.C. Staff will still be at the helm. On a positive note this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is attached to direct from the beginning, which is seen as a hopeful indicator. But, the main art for the continuation is identical to the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou facing different directions. This leads one to believe that, at this point, they must be trolling the fans.

The Ruri Dragon Series Is Set to Be the First Shonen Jump Anime Produced By Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has forged a reputation for being an elite animation studio, making its mark not just for the superb artistry of its productions but for the ethical practices of its employees—a uncommon practice in the industry. Curiously, until now, it had never worked on an anime adapted from a manga serialized in Shonen Jump, arguably the most iconic magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will end that streak, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo achieved a huge following when it launched in 2022 after just a small number of issues, but then went into a extended pause due to the author's health issues. When it came back with a lighter schedule, the series showed it maintained the fans' support and enthusiasm, and now everyone is overjoyed about the impending KyoAni adaptation.

The Kingdom Series Its Sixth Season Will Get a Sequel In Production

Kingdom is the best-selling, long-running Shueisha manga that is other than One Piece. If you've haven't come across it before, it's because it only recently got an English translation, but the anime has been running for a while, and season 6 was yet another excellent entry. It turns out that was just the first half, because a "sequel" has been revealed as currently being made, and it will probably air in 2026.

Science Saru Will Adapt A Witch in Mongolia To Anime

A further studio known for the excellent quality of its work, Science Saru has given us critically acclaimed works of the quality of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, more recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be handling the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, based on the actual historical person of Fatima, an prominent woman and scholar in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Based on the trailer, the anime titled Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and intriguing visual style, which is somewhat reminiscent of Ranking of Kings. Scheduled to launch in July 2026, this one will definitely be on my must-watch list.

The Tougen Anki Series Is Set to Continue With a Season Two

Right after the conclusion of episode 24, it was confirmed that Tougen Anki will be securing a second season. Adapted from the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki is based on the manga by Yura Urushibara. The new season of the anime will cover the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a specific release date has not yet been announced.
